I just got home from seeing Alice in Wonderland. I have to say Tim Burton has done it again, in all his 3D glory. He created a magical, fantastic Burtonized Wonderland that was so entertaining and visually pleasing that when the movie was over I honestly felt like I’d only been watching it for maybe half an hour, tops. Some reviews are saying the movie lacks storyline, but any movie that can entertain me to the point of losing track of time, is a good movie. The characters and costumes were great, Helena Bonham Carter was so evil as the Red Queen, screaming, “Off with their heads”. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, and Alan Rickman (Snape from Harry Potter) as the hookah smoking caterpillar were very entertaining as well. The 3D effects were appropiately placed and made for good fun (I hate the overuse of 3D in movies just because they can). The movie has reportedly grossed over $116 million in this the opening weekend making it the biggest non-sequel ever. It seems that in the troubling times we live in everyone just wants a little bit of Wonderland, in the way that only Tim Burton can deliver.
