So last weekend my husband and I hit the road in the convertible and went up the Blue Ridge Parkway to Virginia. One of our destinations was Chateau Morrisette, recommended to us by friends. We began our day at the winery by doing some tasting. We were impressed by the large selection of wines available (fifteen) and liking reds as much as we do, we immediately purchased a bottle of Petit Verdot which we agreed was a “must”. I also made a mental note to order some Chambourcin later. After enjoying the tasting we had Sunday brunch at the restaurant on the property. Brunch was really good and I enjoyed a Blackberry Sangria cocktail with mine. The blackberry wine on the estate is really good, it’s not a sweet sugary wine as I imagined, but just has a good natural blackberry flavor. After brunch we enjoyed walking around the property. The views were spectacular. Benches and adirondack chairs were placed in hideaways all around the winery making it a comfortable, warm and inviting place. The winery has a full calendar of special events and the restaurant and winery are open year round. I hope to visit it again soon.
