The last stop on our recent roadtrip was a vineyard which is almost in our backyard (approx 2.5 hours away). Shelton Vineyards is located in Yadkin Valley in Dobson, NC. Yadkin Valley has been designated as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) which includes land in seven counties in northwestern NC. Upon driving thru the gates at the vineyard you are immediately struck by the beauty of the immaculate property. We were greeted by Nancy when we entered the tasting room and she immediately signed us up for a tour and tasting. The tour was very informative, as well as enjoyable and Nancy was quite knowledgeable. Given our love of reds we immediately purchased a couple of bottles of Cabernet Franc after tasting them. We also purchased a red blend 10th Anniversary, which I’m assuming is a special vintage (since it’s unavailable on the website) in honor of the celebration of the vineyards 10th anniversary this year. The vineyard hosts a Summer Concert Series and a Harvest Festival in October (which I’m hoping attend). We really enjoyed our day at Shelton Vineyards and hope to visit again soon. When we left the vineyard we drove the short 2.5 miles on a two lane road to our hotel Hampton Inn & Suites At Shelton Vineyards. It’s a suped up Hampton Inn & Suites with a wine bar which also serves a free hot breakfast the next morning. The decor is unique and vineyard themed, making it the perfect ending to a visit to Shelton Vineyards.
