The Millennium Trilogy is a series of three books, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest. The books are crime novels which feature two main characters, Mikael Blomkvist an investigative journalist and Lisabeth Salander a book smart, strong female with a photographic memory and poor social skills, who has been labelled as having violent tendencies. The characters are flawed, which is part of their appeal.
Stieg Larsson, the author of the novels, died before the novels were published. Larsson was an activist and journalist. It has been rumored that Larsson had plans for no less than ten novels featuring these characters and that he had a fourth novel almost finished at the time of his death. The trilogy has sold over 27 million copies. Movies of each book have been made in Larsson’s native Sweden and shown in limited venues in the US, along with US dvd distribution. The movies are currently being remade in a US version as well.
