Total Lunar Eclipse on the Night of Winter Soltice

A total lunar eclipse will take place beginning tonight , on the night of winter soltice, at approximately 1:30am EST. The eclipse should be visible all over North America, if it’s not too cloudy to view. There will be times when the moon appears pink or reddish in color.

The next total lunar eclipse won’t be until 2014. The last winter solstice total lunar eclipse visible from North America was in 1638 and the next one won’t be until 2094.

Happy viewing!
