When I saw these Ginger Gold Apples at the Asheville Farmer’s Market yesterday I immediately thought of Kramer on the sitcom Seinfield yelling “The Mackinaw Peaches Jerry, the Maackinaawww Peaches!”
Last August, quite by accident I discovered Ginger Gold Apples. A mixture of winesap and yellow delicious these make excellent cooking and eating apples. They have a sweet yet mildly tart taste. They’re the first yellow apple to ripen in the fall and are available in August. So I gladly bought a bushel for $20 which I’ll use to can some Curried Apple Chutney and for eating.
