Bob and I went to the movies a couple of days ago and saw The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Being a huge fan of the books and the Swedish film I wanted to see the American version as well. The new version is good and you’ll like it if you’re a fan of the series, but they just didn’t convey the depth of characters and emotion that the Swedish film conveyed. The product placement pissed me off, so anti-Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth was shown eating McDonald’s Happy Meals at least 2 or 3 times in the film, Mercedes was featured several times and Apple laptops were used throughout the movie with the logo prominently displayed. I thought the film lacked the raw, gritty European feel that the Swedish version showed so well. The Swedish version stayed so true to the books, the new version strays a bit and streamlines a lot of details. My husband said if he had not watched the Swedish version plus talking to me about the storyline he wouldn’t of known what was going on, he hasn’t read the book, so it may be quite confusing for someone who is unfamiliar with the series. The musical score which was done by Trent Reznor was very subdued with the exception of The Immigrant Song remake by himself and Karen O. I think he should of used the Led Zeppelin version myself, why mess with perfection? But, as I said before if you enjoy the series, you’ll enjoy the new film.
