Goals for a New Year

I find myself thinking about goals a lot this past week. I know, a lot of people set goals for the new year which are usually forgotten about by February, but I mean real-not too easy but still attainable goals.

I guess with a new year coming up soon I look back and it’s amazing how far I’ve come in less than a year. I stopped smoking, cleaned up my diet, lost 50 lbs, stopped drinking sodas, stopped eating bread and began working out regularly. Now when I go into a supermarket I head for the produce section first and load up. On other aisles I look for affordable organic and non gmo options. I don’t eat out much and I’m picky about fast food, Chick-fil-la or Chipotle is basically the only “fast food” I indulge in these days.

I hope to begin some indoor container gardening soon followed up by a lot of container and backyard gardening outside (when weather allows). I’ve been researching some veggies that can be grown indoors all year round. That will be very beneficial for us with all the changes in our diet.

I try to get outside every day with our German Shepherd, Watson. We run, walk and I throw tennis balls, lots of tennis balls. It’s good for both of us. After he is tired and happy I then usually do kickboxing or some other workout. My husband recently got me a spin bike at my request, so I’m excited about using that daily. For workouts, I hope in the following year to build up endurance, do more kickboxing, spin, walking, running and hiking. I’d like to meet my fitbit goal of 10,000 steps per day more. Overall just keep moving and doing more each week.

Diet and exercise aren’t the only concerns or goals I’ve been thinking about. I normally set a reading goal for myself each year but in the coming year I decided to mix it up a bit with a fun 2015 reading challenge I came across from Pop Sugar on pinterest, just to mix it up a bit. The challenge includes fun things like -a book with a one word title and -a popular author’s first book, so I thought this would help me branch out and read some things I may not chose otherwise.

How about you? Any goals for the coming year? Post your goals below in the comments for 2015 and we can compare notes.
